Nury Martinez is an American politician and member of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 6th district. Martinez was elected in a special election on July 23, 2013 to succeed Tony Cardenas,〔(【引用サイトリンク】 url = http://clerk.lacity.org/Elections/index.htm )〕 who vacated his seat to become U.S. House Representative for California's 29th congressional district. Martinez is the only woman serving on the city council, and the first female Hispanic member in a quarter century. In 2009, Martinez was elected as a member of the Board of Education of the Los Angeles Unified School District, representing the LAUSD District 6. In 2015, Martinez introduced a plan to send letters to people driving down streets prostitutes were known to frequent, utilizing the city's camera system to take pictures of their license plates. These letters would accuse the recipient of soliciting prostitutes with no legal evidence. It is her hope that someone other than the offender would open the letter in an effort to 'shame' solicitors. == References ==
